Noble, durable, beautiful . . . Anodizing
The most reasonable way to render a beautiful surface even more beautiful is to apply an electrolytic oxidation process, or anodizing. Anodizing is an approved method to refine aluminum surfaces. This special technique presupposes the use of special raw materials.
All Vosseler reels are produced from high-grade aluminum. This high-grade material is adaptable for a homogeneous dyeing process during anodizing. In contrast to galvanic dyeing where the surfaces are coated, here they are exposed to controlled oxidation. During the process a wear resisting anodic film of up to 25 microns is built and, so to speak, “grows into the material”. Thus the finish does not only cover the surface. This anodic film is extremely hard, resistant, and pore-filling.
The physical hardness of this sealed surface is higher than that of quartz!
Your new reel, though, does not just look better, it is also extremely well protected! With the addition of our pure and structure-homogeneous aluminum alloy, surface damage carries fewer consequences. Scratches have less effect on function and resistance. The natural atmospheric oxide layer is thinner than an anodic film, but thanks to the material’s purity it is resistant to seawater, too.
That’s not all. Vosseler-reels are also available in anodized colors.
Want to learn something about colored anodizing?
Real tough colors.
Basically, two methods of dyeing anodized surfaces exist, electrolytic dyeing and adsorptive dyeing.
During the electrolytic dyeing process a metalliferous salt solution is added to the electrolyte. The ions of this solution deposit themselves deeply into the pores of the anodic film. Depending on the applied electric tension and the duration of this procedure, these ions cause receptive and scattering effects. A lightfast coloring develops. Many colors can be achieved in this way.
The adsorptive dyeing method for aluminum is in contrast really multicolored. During the inorganic dyeing process the oxidized reels are bathed in hot pigmented dye solutions. Thereby the pigments are deposited firmly into the upper anodic layer.
Also as previously discussed, anodizing does not only result in creating unusually beautiful colors, but surfaces become extremely wear-resisting.
The sport of fly fishing has traditionally required esthetic products. Now, however, the combination of finest surfaces and stylish colors is a growing trend and in hot demand. We are answering that call. In our shop you will surely find a suitable reel in your favorite color.
A color-combined Vosseler reel on a noble rod is always an eye-catcher.
Event Rules
We will provide some fly fishers with the very latest VOSSELER DC2-reels and they will go test-fishing with them, each for four weeks.
Similar to a relay race in sports, the reel will be passed on to the next fly fisher after four weeks.
We want to learn what you caught on this tour, what experiences you had with our reel and what adventures you lived through. However, it is not important for us to know what kind of fish you chased or which rod or fishing line you used on the water. Finally, we will find out which reel has travelled the furthest distance.
Subsequently, these reels will be auctioned off for a good cause.
What we will do:
Some selected fly fishers will receive a brand new VOSSELER DC2-reel to fish with at their preferred waters or even at exotic fishing spots.
We will offer you the opportunity to publish your reports and experiences. On our website all participants will be introduced and then we all will wait to hear about your fishing activities on tour. We will look forward to receiving your beautiful pictures and we will enjoy hearing your stories to be published.
All you will have to do:
Just add your name to our list of interested fishermen and give us a good or inventive reason why we should give you one of these reels.
If you are chosen, go fishing and let us participate in your adventures and experiences by sending us your pictures and/or a short report of your tour. After four weeks you will pass on the reel to a good friend or colleague and just let us know who that “lucky one” is. After four more weeks, this fisherman passes the reel on to the next one, and so on …
For a great finishing touch, a high-capacity carbon dioxide laser is employed for the personalization of your new reel.
Using a hot laser beam of approximately 20,000 degrees Celsius we magically mark your labeling requirements onto the spool edge.
We engrave the colored anodized coating on the aluminum surface. During this process, the organic dyes are pyrolyzed by heating up the top layer. The anodized layer remains mostly preserved. All anodized colors can be burned safely with this mid infrared laser technology.
We are continuously on the move.
Since 1992 our company has produced turned parts and milled parts for demanding industrial companies who attach great importance to quality and reliability.
Additionally we have been manufacturing exceptional first-class fishing reels for fly fishermen on our optimized machinery since 1993. In the reel building process we are able to capitalize on our extensive experience in factory parts production.
From the first design draft to the programming of our CNC controlled machine tools, from production and material refinement to final assemblies – all production steps take place in our factory and on our own machines.
Throughout the world we are catering to fly fishermen with genuine “Made in Germany” products.
In doing so we adhere to a standard whereby the entire production process is subject to precise quality checks.
We favor short distances within manufacturing processes and thus we don’t have to depend on the reliability of other suppliers. Close surveillance of each manufacturing step is extremely complex, however we look at it as being a prerequisite necessary to produce high-quality products.
Due to our quality standards demanding fishermen worldwide acknowledge our reels as reliable companions.
In our workshop of approximately 4500 sq. ft. we manufacture on 10 CNC machines all reel bodies, parts and components to produce finished reels that meet the highest standards. | The fact that our products have received numerous awards for product innovation encourages us. We feel that we are on the right path. | Thinking ahead is not just a slogan for us; we are steadily working on the future. | We will continue offering exceptional products which are carefully manufactured and deliberately leave large-scale production to others. |
Just a matter of technology.
Precision is only replaceable with a higher level of precision.
This is not an empty phrase but our way of working and a matter of course for us, day by day.
Our machinery can be flexibly managed to offer the optimal capacity utilization.
Your new reel runs through several production steps.
The dressing of semi-finished products is done by means of a separate crosscut saw. The feeding of the machined part into a turning lathe followed by a milling machine is effected automatically or semi-automatically. Subsequently a computer-controlled unit carries out the complete chipping procedure. Ever-finer precision tools work towards the defined tolerance limit of the final product. The machine tools and tooling are the best one can use within this technology. Body housings, reel cages, spools, axes, handles, reel feet, etc. are designed and produced in our own manufacturing plant.
We are aware of the significance of professionally carried out processes. Therefore we make it a point to complete the production process in our own workshops. Only the technically complex surface finishing anodizing process is performed by a specialized and well-known outside company.
After this treatment the final laser engraving is carried out back in our own workshop.

For Those Who Would Like a Visit . . .
We want you to not only love our products but to feel comfortable with those craftsmen who make them. Therefore
we would welcome a visit from you if you would like to learn close up more about our company and our people.
Simply contact us and we can arrange for a small Vosseler tour. We may use the opportunity to personally present you with your new reel.
Should you be interested in a more extensive experience, we can arrange for an all-inclusive tour at a nominal charge. You will participate in a guided tour through our manufacturing plant and will exclusively take part in the production of your new reel. Then we will go fishing, so you can show the locals who is the best on the water.
We look forward to hearing from you and would love to welcome you to our facility.

Henry has been tying flies since 1955. Since then he received the 1994 FFF’s Lee Wulff award for genetically producing the super grade hackle he started in 1965. In 1990 Henry started designing flies with rooster soft hackle, knee hackle and chickabou. The Oregon Council of the FFF made him their 2000 Fly Tyer of the Year.
