Drew Chicone is an author, lecturer, materials expert and one of the industry’s premier saltwater fly designers. Why Daiichi: It’s a well know fact, that saltwater and it’s inhabitants are pretty tough on fishing gear, especially terminal tackle. It doesn’t take too many straightened hooks to realize that a quality hook is essential to landing big fish. When choosing a foundation to tie my flies on, any number of variable may come in to play depending on the species and fishing situation. Two attributes that never change however are durability and sharpness. I choose Daiichi hooks for their ultra fine 90 carbon steel wire, which provides superior strength, durably and a needle sharp point. This combination of characteristics produces an extremely rugged hook providing maximum penetration.
