Anodizing
Noble, durable, beautiful . . . Anodizing
The most reasonable way to render a beautiful surface even more beautiful is to apply an electrolytic oxidation process, or anodizing. Anodizing is an approved method to refine aluminum surfaces. This special technique presupposes the use of special raw materials.
All Vosseler reels are produced from high-grade aluminum. This high-grade material is adaptable for a homogeneous dyeing process during anodizing. In contrast to galvanic dyeing where the surfaces are coated, here they are exposed to controlled oxidation. During the process a wear resisting anodic film of up to 25 microns is built and, so to speak, “grows into the material”. Thus the finish does not only cover the surface. This anodic film is extremely hard, resistant, and pore-filling.
The physical hardness of this sealed surface is higher than that of quartz!
Your new reel, though, does not just look better, it is also extremely well protected! With the addition of our pure and structure-homogeneous aluminum alloy, surface damage carries fewer consequences. Scratches have less effect on function and resistance. The natural atmospheric oxide layer is thinner than an anodic film, but thanks to the material’s purity it is resistant to seawater, too.
That’s not all. Vosseler-reels are also available in anodized colors.

Real tough colors.
Basically, two methods of dyeing anodized surfaces exist, electrolytic dyeing and adsorptive dyeing.
During the electrolytic dyeing process a metalliferous salt solution is added to the electrolyte. The ions of this solution deposit themselves deeply into the pores of the anodic film. Depending on the applied electric tension and the duration of this procedure, these ions cause receptive and scattering effects. A lightfast coloring develops. Many colors can be achieved in this way.
The adsorptive dyeing method for aluminum is in contrast really multicolored. During the inorganic dyeing process the oxidized reels are bathed in hot pigmented dye solutions. Thereby the pigments are deposited firmly into the upper anodic layer.
Also as previously discussed, anodizing does not only result in creating unusually beautiful colors, but surfaces become extremely wear-resisting.
The sport of fly fishing has traditionally required esthetic products. Now, however, the combination of finest surfaces and stylish colors is a growing trend and in hot demand. We are answering that call. In our shop you will surely find a suitable reel in your favorite color.
