Dr. Steve Cohen, known to the angling world as `Doc`, began tying at age nine with the gift of a Knoll Fly Tying Kit. A few years later, he traded his stamp collection for his first lesson from a professional tier, Jerry Rosenfield. Forty three years later, Doc has become one of the featured guest fly tiers at The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, NY.
Doc Cohen started a fly tying program while managing the great New York City tackle shop, Wm. Mills and Sons. He has tied professionally and helped to earn his school tuition through sales of his flies. Doc now prefers to tie for his own enjoyment and creativity. Several of his patterns are featured in the Flies of the Millennium books, Wets, Nymphs and Streamers. He has been featured in the Columbus Dispatch`s Sunday Photo Magazine and in several national periodicals. Steve `Doc` Cohen is a Trustee of The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, an instructor of United Fly Tyers and a member of the Catskill Fly Tying Guild Trout Unlimited`s Beamoc Chapter, and a life member of the Needham Sportsman`s Club. Doc is currently sponsored by Daiichi hooks, Ted Simroe Rods and Hobie Optics.
